Mukesh Sharma: An imperative meeting was held today at Rambi Police Post between the Police Officials, Drivers’ Association, Vehicle Owners’ Association, representatives of the Rafting Team, residents of the National Highway (NH) 31A, Kurseong and Kalimpong Police Station In charge, Police Superintendents of Kalimpong and GREF. The main topics of the meeting were regarding the issues faced during the monsoons such as landslide, traffic, rash driving etc. on the NH 31A along Baghpool till Rangpo, West Bengal.
The Kalimpong Police appreciated the selfless service delivered by the Teesta- Rangeet Rafting Welfare and Rescue Group free of charge during the road mishaps. This is for the first time that any Department has recognized their service and thanked them for it. Sukhbir Tamang from the Rafting Team along with other representatives seemed to be pleased by the Department’s act of gratitude.
Informing about the meeting the Kalimpong Superintendent, S Lepcha said that under the leadership of the Police Posts situated along the NH 31A a Rescue Team will be formed comprising of the locals and members from the Rafting Team in order to handle the time of emergency. An awareness campaign will also be held to educate the people about rash driving during which pamphlets will be distributed.
The Police Department further appealed the GREF to place a scroll at Baghpool and Teesta to keep the public updated about the closed roads during the monsoons. It is expected that the disturbance caused within the public due to sudden road blocks during the monsoons will be lessened after the scroll is placed. All the Police Post In charges situated along the NH 31A were present during the meet which was coordinated by the Rangpo Police Station OC Mitra Rai.
