Kalimpong|Mukesh Sharma: The Banwasi Kalyan Ashram today celebrated its 17th Foundation day at the premises of Marwari Bhawan Parishar presided over by the social activist, Kanahiya Choubey as the Chief Guest. The celebrations conducted under the leadership of Padmashri Sonam Tshering Lepcha also saw the presence of Gambhir Rai Agnihotri, Organizational Minister of the North Bengal Banwasi Kalyan Ashram Ashok Jana, North Bengal Organizational Secretary Kamal Puglia, State Sports head Ful Tshering Lepcha and members of various organizations linked with the Ashram.
The students of the Ashram’s hostel firstly recited Hanuman Chalisa and also presented colourful cultural programmes. They demonstrated Yoga Aasans forming many types of pyramids. The students also jumped through the ring of fire. Also during the programme, the Organizational Committee of Lingsey delivered the welcome song in Lepcha language, whereas the children from the Dabling Gram Samiti presented a devotional dance.
The programme also saw the felicitation of the 3 times gold medalist archer Kabum Lepcha and Marathon gold medalist R Tamang. They both have won the gold during the National Games held at Pune. A cultural dance competition was also held during which the participants form Kafer stood 1st with their Tamang dance, Lingsey stood 2nd with Lepcha dance and Pemling stood 3rd with another Lepcha dance performance.
