Darjeeling, Jun 10 : Announcing a series of agitations against the Justice Shyamal Sen committee report's recommendation of including five moujas of Dooars and Terai into GTA, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) today called for a three-day bandh in entire Darjeeling district from July two.
Addressing media after a marathon meeting to discuss the outcome of Justice Shyamal Sen Committee report, GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said a 21-member delegation will meet West Bengal Chief Minsiter Mamata Banerjee before launching the agitation against the committee's recomendation .
In the first phase of the protest the municipal chairman and vice-chairman of four municipalities--Kalimpong, Kurseong, Darjeeling and Merek and other elected representatives would resign from their post on June 27.
This will be followed the three-day bandh in the entire Darjeeling district as well as Dooars in Jalpaiguri from July two.
In the final stage of the agitation on July 17 the Morcha would set on fire the Gorkha Territorial Administration Bill and all the GJM's MLAs would resign from the state assembly.
Talking about the report, Mr Giri said, "We were 'humiliated' by the Shayamal Sen Committee, but we have faith in the chief minister and that is why we have decided to meet her." The onus of accepting or rejecting the reccomendation lies with the state government, he added.
He made it clear that the question of holding Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), scheduled in July, does not arise as the Morcha has totally rejected reccomendation made by Justice Shyamal Sen Committee.
The high-profile committee in its report, which was submitted on Friday, has recommended inclusion of five mouzas-- three from Drajeeling and two from Jalpaiguri-- into GTA as against Morcha's demand of 398. (UNI)
