GJM core committee to decide contesting GTA election on Saturday

Kolkata, Jun 28: The core committee of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) would decide on June 30 contesting the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) election, GJM chief Bimal Gurung said today.

Mr Gurung announced this at Writers' Buildings after a GJM delegation met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat.

" Our core committee meeting will finalise contesting the GTA election on Saturday," Mr Gurung said.

" We have discussed Justice Shyamal Sen Committee recommendations and expressed our views to the chief minister," he said.

Asked to 'forecast' the result of the GTA election, in the event of Trinamool Congress's participation in it, the GJM chief maintained " If GJM takes part in the election, it will win all the seats." To a query on the Presidential election, Mr Gurung said the GJM had not yet taken any decision.

However, he observed " We will be by the side of the chief minister on the issue." The meeting between the chief minister and the GJM leadership took place three days after a GJM delegation, led by Mr Gurung, discussed the GTA election with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and UPA presidential candidate and former Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi.

The GJM had rejected Justice Shyamal Sen Committee's recommendation awarding only five mouzas as against its demand of 398 mouzas in the Terai and Dooars in the GTA. (UNI)
