GTF to observe GTA anniversary as Black Day

Kolkata:The Gorkhaland Task Force (GTF), a conglomerate of various pan-Indian bodies of Gorkhas staying in Darjeeling and also those staying outside across India, has decided to observe the first anniversary of the signing of the GTA agreement as Black Day. “Gorkhas all over India will remember this day as one on which the Gorkha aspiration for the creation of a separate state was betrayed,” stated the GTF in a statement.

Promoter shot dead

Kolkata:A promoter was shot dead in the wee hours of Monday. The incident took place at Narayanpur, opposite Kalipark United Club. Prosenjit Ray, a 37-year-old employee of Rajarhat-Gopalpur Municipality who also worked as a promoter, was shot dead from a very close range, said a senior police officer. No one has been arrested so far. Prima facie police think he was killed over his involvement as a promoter and association with local anti-social elements.

Seth faces people’s anger

Haldia:Senior CPM leader Laxman Seth, out on bail in connection with the disappearance of six people at Nandigram in 2007, faced ire of people when he went to appear before the investigating officer at the Haldia sub-divisional court on Monday as directed. Activists of anti-land acquisition protested against the bail granted to him.
