The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Executive Chief, Bimal Gurung has spoke with the Management Committee of Dr Graham Homes (DGH) School for up-gradation of the Ronaldsay Park in order to develop and encourage sports in Kalimpong. The same was informed by Gurung himself during the 16th Limited Over Cricket Cup being organized by the Piranha’s Club, at Ronaldsay Park since January 24, 2013. The final of the tournament was held today during which the Mechi Cricket Club, Nepal stood victorious by defeating Arun XII Cricket Club, Mirik by 88 runs. The winning team batting first made 301 runs in 30 overs by losing 5 wickets. The runners up team made 213 runs in 25 overs by losing all the wickets. Mehboob Alam from the Mechi team made the maximum runs of 158 in 78 balls including 13 boundaries. He was declared Man of the Match. Likewise, Sirish Pandey from Mechi team was adjudged Man of the Series. He scored 71 runs in 59 balls which included a six and 9 boundaries. A total of 18 teams from Nepal, Sikkim, Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong and Mirik had participated in the tournament. The winning team received a trophy amounting more than a lakh of Rupees and cash prize of Rs 20,000/-. While the runners up team received Rs 50,000/- cash prize. The trophy and the cash amount for the winner were sponsored by the Piranha’s Club. Gurung also granted Rs 10,000/- to the runners up.Kalimpong MLA Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri was the chief guest of the day. GTA Sabhasad Nima Tamang, GTA Deputy Chief cum Sports Department head, Col Ramesh Allay, Roshan Giri, Binay Tamang and other were also present during the occasion.
