The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and activists were allegedly attacked by Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) activists in Kalimpong today.
It was learnt that the TMC Kalimpong unit led by its senior leader, Chewang Bhutia and Bruno Lepcha, candidates of the TMC during the GTA Sabha election in 2012 were organizing an indoor meeting in a house in the gardens of Silver Oaks Hotel at Ringking Pong Road, Kalimpong this afternoon when all of a sudden at around 1 PM a group of GJMM supporters swooped down and attacked them ferociously. Immediately, after the intervention of police the mob dispersed bringing the situation from spiraling further. In this stir several TMC activists were injured in which their leader Chewang Bhutia have been reported to be severely injured on the head and face hit by a wooden beam. They have been rushed to the Kalimpong Sub Divisional Hospital for treatment.The Kalimpong Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs. Songmeet Lepcha said that during the attack the TMC supporters were holding an indoor meeting when they were allegedly sieged by the GJMM supporters. She further added that they had been informed about the imminent clash and had reached the spot in time to control the skirmish from deteriorating further. If we had not been informed the incident could have taken a worse turn. In this incident two TMC leaders Chewang Bhutia and Bruno Lepcha have been badly injured. Presently Bhutia has been referred to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri. The Police also informed that the TMC have filed a FIR against the GJMM Youth Wing President Barood Thapa and its Secretary Binay Ghisingh as well as others. However later four of them has been arrested from damber chowk . At the same time keeping in mind the grave nature of the incident, huge police personnel have been deployed in Kalimpong Town to monitor the situation.The Kalimpong GJMM leadership has objected to the allegation leveled at them saying it is baseless and have instead condemned the attack.
