Mungpoo Cinchona Factory: Lays Foundation stone for reconstruction

The GTA took the first step in developing the Cinchona Industry which comes to a close second to the tea industry of the hills. The Mungpoo Cinchona Factory which was shut down since 1999 will now be re-established and technically transformed. The GTA Executive Chief, Bimal Gurung  laid the foundation stone for the construction of the factory. Addressing the gathering in Mungpoo ,  Gurung informed that around 51 crores will be needed for the total reconstruction work out of which 5 crores will be released for the first phase of the construction. In the first phase of the construction a husk separating machine will be installed. The husks will be used for manufacturing the medicines. He also stated that various medicines for different diseases will be manufactured after the factory is reconstructed. Gurung directed that the funds for the construction work should be used wisely.   He also reiterated that he will not be resigning from the GTA and instead developmental works will be carried out through the autonomous body. He informed that the GTA will be receiving 55 crores of funds for the same.The concerned departmental Sabhasad, Samuel Gurung in his address said that the construction of the Sinchona factory which was running on a loss has been taken up as a challenge so that the 60,000 families dependent on the factory will benefit from this step taken by the GTA.
