Gangtok: A
female staff member of the Gangtok branch of the State Bank of India
today dragged the regional manager to the Sadar Police Station accusing
him of sexual assault.
SBI regional manager Sunanda Das (54)
was beaten up in public and forced to leave Sikkim after a complaint by a
female staff employed as private assistant.
The victim has lodged a complaint at the police station in Gangtok.
Das, a native of Kolkata, who was associated with the SBI branch at Kazi Road, had to face the rage of the bank’s women employees and was later escorted by the police out of the bank premised and into a taxi.

He was also asked to apologise to the
complainant with folded hands by other staff members. Superintendent of
police (East) Manoj Tewari said the woman employee has filed a general
diary with the police. “It was not an FIR but a general compliant, and
the bank employees said they would make the manager tender an apology,”
said Tewari.
Police sources said Das was escorted out by some staff members who assured him he would be immediately taken out of Sikkim.
Commenting on the incident, Sikkim State
Women Commission chairperson Subadhra Rai said, “There must be many
such cases in other offices and the Commission will look into the matter
as a formal complaint has been lodged.”( EOIC)
