Darjeeling, 21 July: The six member delegation of Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha, now communicating
face to face with the members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC),
today met another veteran leader of the committee, Mr Ajay Maken. “Mr
Maken has assured to raise the issue of Gorkhaland in the next CWC
meeting,” said the general secretary to the party, Mr Roshan Giri.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will take a final call on the issue of Telangana. The GJMM has been demanding the CWC to give priority to the issue of Gorkhaland when bifurcating Telangana from Andhra Pradesh.
Yesterday the leaders met Mr Digvijaya Singh urging him to raise the statehood issue. “So far we met two leaders of the CWC and we are confident that they will raise our statehood demand in the next CWC meeting. On 23 July we have an appointment with Mr P Chidambaram,” said Mr Giri.
A week earlier, Mr Giri said to forward a letter to all the 42 members of the CWC. Today Mr Giri said, the delegation got laid back about the appointment fixed with the Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on 18 July. Mr Roshan Giri and his delegation comprising three MLA’s of the Hills sub-division, town municipality chairman and the central committee member left for Delhi on 19 July .
"Now we are trying to fix an appointment with Mr Shinde," added Mr Giri.
