Kalimpong | Pradip Lohagun: A
meeting was held today at the Kalimpong police station with an aim to
unite authorities involved in natural disaster management and discuss
possible advance rescue operations. Kalimpong police station officer in
charge Achinta Gupta presided over the proceedings and the meeting was
attended by disaster management official Kaveri Subba and GDNS
representative Mahendra Rai along with representatives from the food
department, fire department and ration dealers.
The representatives presented measures
taken by them in case of emergencies. According to the OC, commuting
becomes a problem during disasters and the concerned authorities need to
be quick in surveying the spots and rescue the victims.
Kalimpong Mahukuma block 1 has a total
of 19 gram Panchayats out of which seven come under the Sudurwati
region. The region falls under a disaster prone zone. The disaster
management department appealed to all concerned to be in continuous
contact for quick response.
Meanwhile, the food department, ration
dealers and the hospital management said they are prepared for
disasters. Gupta urged the authorities to be on their heels as natural
disasters could strike any moment.
