The
state government has not accorded importance to the Gorkhaland
Territorial Administration pact and this resulted in the current turmoil
in the Hills, according to Central minister and Congress leader Dipa
Dasmunshi. She made this statement today in Siliguri during the 60th
anniversary of the Chhatra Parishad.
Munshi said, “The Congress is always
concerned about the development of the Darjeeling Hills, but we do not
want the division of Bengal.”
She claimed she has urged the prime
minister to arrange a tripartite meeting soon to resolve the situation
in the Hill thanks to the mishandling of the TMC.
The Congress leader said, “The political
situation in the Hills has aggravated due to the double standard of the
Trinamool Congress. The chief minister says one thing and does the
other.”
She further said, “The state government
has adopted the policy of intimidation and is arresting protesters in
Darjeeling. But it is not concerned about the problems of the common
peoples there.”
Meanwhile, Munshi also clarified that
she had earlier led Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leaders to meet central
ministers from the Congress for discussing development issues concerning
Darjeeling and not with any political motive.(EOI)
