 GJM seeks PM's intervention
The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leadership today sought the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the statehood issue.
GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said, "The central government and the prime minister should intervene. It is not a law and order problem. It is a political problem. The people in the hills want Gorkhaland. If the people can get Telengana, why can't we get Gorkhaland?"
However, he declined commenting on the observation of the Calcutta High Court expressing displeasure over the continuance of the bandh, and said the party has not received the court order.
"We have not yet received the High Court order. We will see the order first and then give our reaction," said Giri.
Describing the agitation as a "people's movement", he said the ‘janta curfew’, which entered its second day on Wednesday, was a "democratic way of protest against the move of the West Bengal government to suppress the movement by heavy deployment of security forces".(EOI)
