GJMM asks students to launch agitation

Darjeeling, 25 August: The leaders of the GJMM today asked the students in the hills to write a letter to the President of India, Chief justice of the Supreme Court and to the members of the Human Rights commission explaining why they want Gorkhaland. They were told to express their views on the agitation and the fact that the schools have been closed over a month now and what they have learnt from the ongoing movement.
The GJMM  leaders have appealed to parents to send their children aged between 12- 18 years for a rally for five days starting from 27th August to show solidarity to the Gorkhaland demand.
“The students in the Hills, Terai and Dooars, aged between 12-18 years will come out for a rally with the statehood demand from 27th to 31st August. We have also appealed to the students across the country to stage a rally with the common demand, Gorkhaland,” said the central committee leader of the student wing of GJMM, Mr Rohit Bikram Sharma. “The students will write a letter addressing the President of India, Chief justice of the Supreme Court and to the members of the human rights commission about why they want Gorkhaland and they will also express their support on Facebook,” he added.
Today teenagers gathered at Paatleybaash, on the outskirts of Darjeeling mostly students from various regions of the hills came along with their parents as summoned by the party to show solidarity towards the ongoing statehood movement.
The gathering was accompanied by the top leaders of GJMM including Mr Bimal Gurung. According to sources it has been learnt that children between 12 to 18 years had gathered in thousands. Mr Bimal Gurung seemed pleased to see these children voice the slogan of Gorkhaland, said a source.
Meanwhile the Bandh, 'janta sadak ma (people at streets) continues to paralyze normal life in the hills. It is supposed to continue for  an indefinite period. (SNS)
