Mukti Morcha vice president Peter Minz today said the party believes in
development in the Dooars and not just politics. He said the ongoing
agitation in the Darjeeling hills is the voice of the common man and
expressed dissatisfaction on the state government’s method of
suppressing it. He suggested the situation could be resolved through
talks.
Minz said some outfits in the Dooars
have been trying to protest against the movement in the Hills instead of
thinking about the development of the region. He said the JMM has been
trying to bring all the communities in the region together for
development. He also noted that a few outfits here have been trying to
create tension between the Adivasis and Gorkhas.
The JMM leader added the people of the
Dooars have been deprived since long. Even after several years of
Independence, tea garden workers here have not seen even basic
facilities, he said. The JMM wants the government to provide the Dooars
with a setup similar to the GTA for the purpose of development, added
Minz.(EOI)
