A
day-long march from Jorethang to Darjeeling in support of the
Gorkhaland movement was successfully conducted on Sunday. The rally was
led by Gorkha Jagran Samaj convener KK Chettri and Pravin Khaling in
which several political and non-political organisations of Sikkim along
with media personnel participated.
The march started from Rambang Bridge at
the West Bengal-Sikkim border and headed towards Darjeeling. Upon
reaching Darjeeling, the rally leaders met Gorkha Janmukti Morcha
president Bimal Gurung and general secretary Roshan Giri at the party
office in Singamari. Gurung welcomed the supporters from Sikkim warmly
and congratulated them for their endeavour. He noted Sikkim has always
supported the demand for Gorkhaland and expressed his gratitude. This
Sikkim delegation also held a rally in Darjeeling town and shouted
slogans in favour of a Gorkhaland state.(EOI)
