The
Bahujan Samaj Party has said the party has been “traditionally in
favour of small states” and “demands the creation of Vidarbha and
Gorkhaland states”. BSP supremo Mayawati said a break-up of larger
states would expedite development and make governance manageable, adding
she expected the central government to look afresh at her proposal.
On the other hand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again accused the centre of trying to interfere in the affairs of the state through its agencies, claiming there is an ongoing conspiracy to dismiss her government, which according to her, is running well.
She said, “I strongly condemn the CWC’s decision. Constitutional obligations should not be jeopardised; it is most unfortunate for the country to be a victim of political vendetta.”
Banerjee further said Darjeeling is not the private property of any one individual and no one has the right to send the tourists and students away from the hills. She added she is highly concerned for the security and safety of the people in the Hills.
“I want peace to prevail in Darjeeling and the GTA agreement cannot be cancelled at any cost while the question of a separate state doesn’t arise,” asserted the chief minister.
A post on Banerjee’s Facebook page reads: "Telangana cannot be compared with Darjeeling. When everything is settled, why is Delhi bent on disrupting the peaceful situation and playing with fire? It is reported that Delhi has directed the GTA members to go in for a separatist movement. Darjeeling is part and parcel of our state. We are united and we will remain united. Any conspiracy hatched by a political party and Union Government will be defeated by the people of Darjeeling and West Bengal." (EOIC)
