To strengthen the relationship between India and Nepal, a trekking route from Kakarvitta in Nepal to Mirik in India has been launched and declared as the Indo-Nepal Friendship Trekking Route.
The top government officials from Nepal along with the officials from India today surveyed the route up to Salakpur under Ilaam district of Eastern Nepal to take note of the safety and security of the route for the tourist visiting the places.
Chief district officer of Jhapa district Tek Mani Nepal said, “This concept was initiated by the Help Tourism from India and the Nature Conservation Society Nepal. We have supported the initiative whole heartedly to strengthen the relationship and also to promote tourism between the two countries.”
He said he has already given the proposal to the government of Nepal for the construction of concrete road from Baundangi to Salakpur, so that more tourists can enjoy the natural beauty of the area more conveniently.
Senior Superintendent of police Mechi Anchal Kesari Raj Ghimire said, “Keeping in mind the security and safety of the tourists, the department will employ more forces along the trekking route.” He said the area is very peaceful and so far no major criminal cases have been reported from the area.
The trekking route has been marked in such a way that the tourist from both the nations can enjoy wild elephant movements in Baundangi, orange gardens in Salakpur, beautiful valleys and mountains, bird watching, culture exchanges and many more. Fifteen villages from both the nation have been selected for home stays so that the trekkers can plan for overnight stays.
Every Sunday thousand of Indian tourists visit Salakpur to see the orange gardens, which is in demand for both scenic beauty and cheaper rates. The local people who used to depend solely on the agriculture have also started understanding the concept of echo tourism since last three years said Santosh Acharya a journalist from Nepal.(EOIC)
