Siliguri police to introduce GPS in patrol vans
Siliguri, 8 December
The Siliguri Metropolitan Police authority has planned to modernise its police control room and strengthen  forces.
In a bid to modernise its forces, the SMP would send a proposal to the police directorate for installation of the Global Positioning System (GPS) in the police patrolling vans and voice recorders at the police control room.
“The purpose of installing the GPS system is to track the movement of the police patrolling vans. If we can track the movement then it would be easier for us to call the particular van which is close to the spot of an incident or we can send the particular van somewhere according to the necessity. The movement of the patrolling vans would be monitored from the police control room. But for this plan we need to have the funds. The projects depend on the availability of funds," said a senior police officer of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police.
The control room used to communicate with the patrolling van through the wireless technology system. Police are also planning to buy the voice recorders to be installed at the control room.
“Many callers call at the control room for several problems. What we have decided is to record the voices of the police official who speaks to the callers and also the callers so that we can see what should be the proper way to speak to callers," the officer added.(SNS)
