The GTA Sabhasads and GJM supporters
where hoping that the bail plea for the accused would be granted
following the meeting between, CM Mamta Banerjee and GJM chief Bimal
Gurung on December 20. However, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Darjeeling
Additional session Judge, Second Court separately rejected the bail
plea.
Public Prosecutor Pranay Rai said the bail cannot be granted as the charge sheet has already been prepared for all the accused. The seven GTA members are Mahendra Pradhan, Arun Sikchi, Yogen Rai, Anit Thapa, Anush Thapa, Pranay Thapa and Nima Tamang, while Pasang Tamang is the GJM leader. They were arrested in two different cases in Darjeeling.
Nima Tamang was arrested in allegedly torching the Singmari police outpost in Darjeeling, and was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate today. Meanwhile, the rest of them were arrested for burning down the forest bungalow in Lodhoma, they were produced before Additional Session Judge, Second Court. The next hearing has been fixed on February 6th next year, as the court will remain closed until January 27, 2014 for winter vacation.(EOI)
