Siliguri, 24 December: The Ringtong tea plantation based in Sonada in Darjeeling Hills would reopen on 15 January. The tea plantation has remained closed since 19 December 1996 due to labour unrest, said the joint labour commissioner, Md. Rizwan.
A tripartite meeting involving the owners of the tea plantation, trade union representatives and the labour department officials was held the joint labour commissioner office in Siliguri today. Mr Rizwan further informed the New Dooars tea plantation would also reopen on 27 December. The management of the tea plantation had issued a notice of suspension of work on 15 December in the wake of alleged labour unrest. The tea plantation is an affiliate of Andrew Yule and Co Ltd.(SNS)
