Gurung to lay foundation stone for fire station in Mirik
GTA
chief executive Bimal Gurung will be in Mirik on February 18 to lay the
foundation stone for a fire station, according to a reliable source. He
will also announce various schemes for the development of this area of
the Darjeeling hills, added the source.
Gurung has already announced that the
GTA has set aside a sum of Rs27 crore for the development of Mirik. Town
residents are hopeful about the GTA chief launching more schemes to
promote tourism for generating new employment opportunities.
Mirik town admin implementing dev works
The
Mirik town administration has begun installing new streetlights in all
the wards under its jurisdiction. Municipality chairperson Mala Subba
said the administration is taking measures to light up the entire town
area even as she warned those illegally drawing power from the
streetlights.
She said the administration will keep a close watch on power connections and anyone found guilty of power theft will be dealt with according to the prevailing law.
A new road is coming up in Ward 3, while pay-toilet is under construction in Ward 5 to facilitate tourists. Subba further said water reserve tanks will soon be set up in Wards 2, 3 and 5 and the NOCs have been acquired. She added similar tanks can be erected in other wards too for distributing drinking water if such NOCs are obtained.
The chairperson also warned people who are illegally constructing houses and other concrete structures in government land, saying the administration will deal with them strongly. (EOIC)

Artiste org rally in Mirik
The recently-formed Association of Artists of Mirik today brought out a
rally in town with the aim of securing a platform for local artistes.
Led by association president Dipen Gurung and secretary Arvindaraj
Gurung, artistes from various fields, including music, theatre, dance,
film production, handcraftsmanship and painting, participated in the
rally and went around town singing songs and raising funds.(EOIC)
