Kolkata, 10 February: The West Bengal Higher Secondary Council (WBHSC) has decided to take the aggregate of best of five subjects for calculating the percentage in Madhyamik examination.
This initiative has been taken to be at par with the ICSE and the CBSE system of evaluation.
Currently, English or Bengali is a mandatory subject in the Higher Secondary Council for the aggregate in total , but now the score of best five subjects will be taken into consideration.
Mrs Mohua Das, president of the West Bengal Higher Education Council, said that they have sent the proposal of taking the marks of best of five subjects to the state education department for their consideration.
According to Ms Das, in many cases, students do not secure good marks in language papers and as a result they don't secure a good aggregate.
Due to this many students of the West Bengal Board find it difficult to get into the best of colleges in the state, while students of ICSE and CBSE backgrounds easily get admission there.
“If the marks of the best of five subjects will be taken while calculating the aggregate, it will be easy for an average student to score well and get into a good college," she said.(SNS)
