The
Darjeeling district hill Trinamool Congress today said the party has
sent the names of six candidates to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Hill
TMC president Rajen Mukhia told reporters in Mirik that “the hill TMC
maintains its stand and has appealed to the CM to nominate a local
candidate for the Lok Sabha election”.
He claimed the CM has accepted the proposal after which they sent a list comprising the names of six candidates.
Mukhia said the Lok Sabha election will decide the strength and influence of both the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and TMC. He also urged GJM chief Bimal Gurung to support the TMC candidate.
“People here should support a national level party. Only a national level party can eradicate the prevailing problems of the Darjeeling hills. If our candidate wins and becomes MP, we can also think about making him a Union minister. Several schemes of the central government can be implemented in the hills after that,” observed Mukhia.
He appreciated the decision of the Tamang Youth Association to support the TMC saying this is in response to Banerjee’s fulfilling what she had promised to the Tamang community.(EOIC)
