Siliguri, 18 March : BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat chief minister,
Narendra Modi, is likely to address election rallies in north Bengal.
The dates and venues for the same are, however, yet to be decided on.
According to party sources, Mr Modi is likely to address rallies in Siliguri and Alipurduar.
"Mr Modi will address election rallies in north Bengal, but the venues and the dates have not been finalised,” the state BJP president, Rahul Sinha, said today over the phone from Kolkata.
The BJP’s North Bengal coordinator Partha Ghosh said the rallies for Mr Modi could be held in Siliguri, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri. "These rallies are likely to be organized between the end of this month and early next month. If things go as planned, Mr Modi may address rallies in other places too. Discussions are under way, but things have not yet taken a final shape," Mr Ghosh said.
BJP workers in the region are presently conducting booth-wise campaigning. "A lot of excitement is seen among party workers in north Bengal this time around. Like other parts of the country, people here are excited with the Modi wave. His presence here will definitely boost the morale of the workers. We are now organising booth-wise campaigning and we are hopeful that the BJP would do well in north Bengal,” he said.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate backed by the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM), SS Ahluwalia, is expected to hold a party workers' meeting in Siliguri tomorrow. Mr Ahluwalia is scheduled to leave for Darjeeling soon after the meeting.(SNS)
