Independent
candidate Dr. Mahendra P Lama, if victorious, will have a role in the
formation of government at the Centre irrespective of which party comes
to power. Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh spokesperson R Moktan today said
the independent candidate will extend his support to whichever party
that forms government once the results of the 16th general elections are
announced.
Moktan said, “There is no guarantee that the BJP will form the government as it may not be able to secure absolute majority. Under such circumstances, it will not be a problem for the independent MP to work with whichever party that forms the government at the Centre. Further, Lama will not be under pressure and orders from higher-ups and this fact will eventually help him in his efforts to create a congenial environment in favour of Gorkhaland.”
Claiming Lama to be an able and sincere candidate, the BGP spokesperson said the 16th LS elections will be the decisive one for Gorkhaland aspirants. But at the same time, he expressed skepticism saying that although the BJP advocates creation of smaller states its stance towards formation Gorkhaland is still obscure. Meanwhile, BGP president and DDUDF apex body chairman Dr. Enos Das Pradhan informed polling agents will be placed in most of the 261 polling booths in Kalimpong sub-division. He also expressed hope of voting being conducted peacefully across Darjeeling constituency. (EOIC)
