Ebola virus disease (EVD) more dngerous than Japanese Encephalitis
It has been assumed that  Ebola virus disease (EVD) or the Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) is more dangerous in compare with  Japanese Encephalitis.
Ebola virus disease (EVD) or Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) is the human disease caused by the Ebola virus. Symptoms typically start two days to three weeks after contracting the virus, with a fever, sore throat, muscle pains, and headaches. Typically nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea follow, along with decreased functioning of the liver and kidneys. At this point, some people begin to have bleeding problems.

The virus may be acquired upon contact with blood or bodily fluids of an infected animal (commonly monkeys or fruit bats). Person-to-person transmission by means of direct contact with infected persons or their body fluids/secretions is considered the principal mode of transmission. In a household study, secondary transmission took place only if direct physical contact occurred. No transmission was reported without this direct contact. Airborne transmission has not been documented during previous EVD outbreaks. Fruit bats are believed to carry and spread the virus without being affected.

Ebola panic is gripping much of West Africa as the deadly disease has spread from its epicenter in Guinea to neighboring countries.

The disease has yet to travel beyond the region, but fears rose around the world with the recent confirmation of the first death in Nigeria, the continent’s most populous nation.

The current Ebola outbreak is considered the worst ever, infecting more than 1,200 people and causing the death of more than 670 victims since it was first diagnosed in February, according to the World Health Organization. It continues to spread at a rapid clip, with 14 new cases identified on Friday in Guinea, the New York Times reported Sunday.

“No licensed specific treatment or vaccine is available for use in people or animals,” according to WHO, though there are some vaccines currently undergoing testing.

The disease was first detected in 1976, when two outbreaks emerged in Sudan and a village in the Democratic Republic of Congo (then Zaire) near the Ebola River, hence the name of the virus. It is believed to have originated in bats.

Ebola passes on to humans “through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals,” like bats, gorillas and chimpanzees, WHO says.

From there, it passes among humans through contact with bodily fluids of infected people. Therefore, suspected victims are generally quarantined in order to prevent its spread, especially given that the incubation period can be as long as 21 days.

A Professor of Epidemology and Community Health Science,University of Ilorin, Tanimola Akande, and a one time Clinical Virologist at Hoston Texas,United States of America,Dr.Olajide Agbede, made the declaration in Ilorin, Kwara State, during their seperate lectures delivered at an awareness campaign on Ebola virus sponsored by Chairman, LUBCON Group of companies,Alhaji Jani Ibrahim.

The duo identified fruit bats as the major courier of Ebola virus which later spread it to other animals and man.

Akande, specifically advised Nigerians to shun the consumption of bush meat as a preventive measure against contacting the viirus.

The don who is the national president, Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria, said “Ebola is a very deadly disease. We have been talking about HIV/AIDS but Ebola is more deadlier than HIV/AIDS or Enchephalitis. It’s an African Problem. Mostly in Central and West Africa Republic”

He said the virus which “thrives in their natural host of fruits bats had so far killed 580 out of the 930 people diagnosed with the disease in Guinea, Liberia, Seira- Leone and Ghana”.

The medical expert said “any contact with an effected person is almost a death sentence because the virus has no vaccines,no drugs ,we only give palliative management”.

He said the virus unlike in animals, presents common malaria symptoms like fever, headache, general body pain, blood stooling and bleeding from within and outside of an infected person”.
