The
Communist Party Revolutionary Marxist has expressed displeasure with
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for failing to give any importance to the
sacrifices made by the Gorkhas in giving Singapore its present shape.
CPRM spokesperson Govind Chhetri said
the chief minister on Wednesday garlanded a statue of Subash Chandra
Bose in the city-state and talked at length about his life. The CPRM is
not opposed to Banerjee in her garlanding Netaji’s statue, but she must
have also definitely known that the statue is in honour of the Gorkha community, he said. Netaji had led his Indian National Army comprising
mostly of Gorkha soldiers and succeeded in making Singapore a free
country. “Given such a backdrop, the chief minister should have spoken a
word or two about the contributions of the Gorkhas,” Chhetri added.
He also said the CPRM-led Vikalpa
Pragatishil Sahitya Sanskritik Sansthan will soon felicitate former
Sikkim MP Dil Kumari Bhandari and Darjeeling former Rajya Sabha MP RB
Rai for playing key roles in Parliament in achieving constitutional
recognition for the Nepali language.
