Ration shop ultimatum in Jungpana tea estate
The management of Jungpana tea estate has requested for some more time to hand over the keys of the ration shop to the Kurseong sub-divisional magistrate. However, if this promise is not kept by 10am Sunday, the SDM has warned the lock would be broken open.
It was learnt that after the 24-hour ultimatum to the garden management by SDM U Swaroop, some representatives of the tea estate met him in Siliguri and requested for some more time to surrender the keys of the ration shop.
Swaroop also informed that the police and food and supply department and other concerned authorities have already been informed about the imminent development.
One of the finest tea producing tea estates in the Darjeeling hills, Jungpana tea estate is located near Mahanadi and has remained closed since July 31 with the management citing harassment and intimidation by the union.
Today was the 10th day since the estate has remained closed.
A tripartite meeting has been called by the labour commissioner on August 12 at the joint labour commissioner’s office in Siliguri to sort out the ongoing issue in Jungpana tea estate. (EOIC)
