Under the initiative of Raj Basu of
Siliguri-based NGO Action for Conservation of Tourism, a meeting was
held Wednesday at Rai Home Stay, Tinchuley in Takdah to promote rural
tourism in the north-eastern states. Delegates from various regions of
North Bengal, Nepal and Bhutan attended the meet.
A decision has been made to organise a
rural tourism festival from December 5 to 7 at Salt Lake in Kolkata
titled ‘Orange Festival & Rural Tourism Bazaar 2014’. The event will
focus on promoting rural tourism in the north-eastern region and also
highlight the orange fruit, which grows mostly in the hills, for
developing its marketing prospects.
The meeting at Tinchuley was presided
over by MK Pradhan, one of the most senior eco-tourism and organic
agriculturists of the area.(EOIC)
