Police allegedly conducted raids in the village of Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) chief Bimal Gurung at Tukvar Patleybas in Darjeeling this evening.
Police raided two houses in the area—one belonging to Jaspal Gajmer near the house of Mr Gurung, and another a house belonging to Dinesh Thing near the GJMM-Patleybansh party office, it is learnt.
Senior GJMM leader Binay Tamang said over telephone from Darjeeling that the police can conduct raids, “but only on the basis of specific reports.”
He said police cannot harass the public just like that. “We condemn such an act of the police,” he said.
Darjeeling SP, AK Chaturvedi, however, only said that the CRPF is patrolling in the area as there are reports that Sanjay Thulung has been hiding in the area.
Mr Thulung, a GTA member of Takdah, and a GJMM youth leader is absconding after his alleged links to the arms and ammunition haul in Assam recently. (sns)
