Supporters of the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) heaved a sigh of relief and expressed happiness today, now that their party chief and former Darjeeling strongman, Subhas Ghisingh, is better and out of hospital.
Mr Ghisingh, who had been undergoing treatment in a Siliguri nursing home, was taken to New Delhi and admitted to the Gangaram Hospital there on 24 October for age-related problems.
"Mr Ghisingh was discharged from the hospital two days ago. However, keeping in mind his improving health, he will be staying in Delhi for another two-three months,” Darjeeling GNLF branch committee convener MG Subba said here today.
“The fund collection drive that had been started among GNLF supporters and well-wishers (in Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong) for Mr Ghisingh’s treatment has been stopped,” he added.
According to Mr Subba, the party is now discussing its future course of action.
“A meeting similar to the one that was held in Mirik recently will be held in Kalimpong on 14 January tentatively,” said Mr Subba.(sns)
