Wednesday haat (बुधबारे हाट) has started functioning on the Hanuman
Nagar compound in Mirik. It was inaugurated by 24 No samasty
Thurbu-Duptin sabhasad Arun Ghising.
The trade would focus on locally produced vegetables, food items, fruits, spices, minor local forest produce like bamboo, bamboo grass, cottage items like woollen shawls, straw bags, axe, spade, chisel and locally produced garments. "The haat would focus on fostering Mirik’s economy, also creating employment opportunities to the local youths," said Kamala Gurung, Secretary of the haat committee. Produce from the local farmers will be sold at the haat at profitable price to the consumers, she added.
Brisk sales were seen at the haat immediately after the inauguration. The authorities expect more people to approach the venue to buy the fresh local products and more vendors for selling their produce.
SI Mirik police station Ravi Kumar Diyali, Mirik municipality chairperson Mala Subba and the members of Hanuman Nagar Hart Sanchalan committee , were also present on the occasion. (HS)
