Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will be in Siliguri on Monday to
campaign for Baichung Bhutia, her handpicked party candidate for the
Assembly election.
TMC leader and North Bengal Development Department minister Gautam Deb said the chief minister will also tour other constituencies in north Bengal to campaign for the party’s candidates. He said Banerjee will head a 'padyatra' on the busy Hill Cart Road where thousands of supporters are expected to join her. The rally will start from Darjeeling More and end in Hashmi Chowk.
Deb said, "After becoming the chief minister, didi has not participated in any padyatra in Siliguri. We will therefore, ensure the rally is a historical one. The padyatra is also being held to observe Nandigram Diwas."
Banerjee will then attend a public meeting in Bidhan Nagar before heading uphill to Darjeeling for yet another bout of campaigning. She is slated to address a public meeting in Kurseong on Tuesday, March 15. The TMC chief is also scheduled to visit Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar and campaign for Gautam Deb in Sahudangi before heading back to Kolkata on March 18.(EOI)
