GJM launches massive campaigning for BJP candidates in plains

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has launched a massive campaigning in the plains in support of BJP candidates for the Assembly polls. GJM general secretary Roshan Giri today attended meetings in Bagdogra and addressed a considerable gathering urging everyone to vote for the BJP.
He called on all plains-based senior GJM leaders and asked them to remain united and work for the people, urging them not to fall prey to forces that are trying to destroy the unity and peace between the people of the hills and the Terai. He said he was confident of the Morcha winning all three seats in the hills with huge margins.
When asked about the impact Harka Bahadur Chhetri’s Jan Andolan Party has had on the GJM, Giri said, “The GJM is the number one party in the hills and no other force can overshadow us; it (JAP) will have zero affect on us.”
He went on, “Since the BJP has agreed to fulfill the long pending demand for Gorkhaland, there is no requirement to vote for any other party. We supported the BJP in the last parliamentary election, and this time too we will support BJP candidates wholeheartedly.”
Further, the GJM leader requested everyone to attend the April 7 meeting in Gosainpur where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Satpal Maharaj, GJM chief Bimal Gurung and Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia are expected to speak.
KN Pradhan, vice president of the GJM's Siliguri Mahakuma Committee, pointed out that many party members who had quit, lured by the community development boards doled out by the state government, have returned to the GJM fold again after they realised that the boards would not fulfill the demands of the people.
He denounced those members from the Terai region who recently quit the GJM saying they will never be happy. “Those who have left have done so for selfish ends and not for the welfare of the society and community,” claimed Pradhan, adding the Terai committees of the GJM would campaign for BJP candidates in every possible corner.
