A
court in Darjeeling today sentenced a 28-year-old man from Pul Bazaar
to 10 years rigorous imprisonment after pronouncing him guilty of
murder. Tika Subba of Mulmidang in Pul Bazaar was convicted of killing
Suraj Subba (26), also of the same area, on May 12, 2015.
According to public prosecutor Pranay
Rai, the accused and the victim were last seen together at the Rambang
River near Tilkheni on the fateful day. “The accused and victim are
woodcutters and were last spotted together. A police complaint was
lodged by Nim
Kumar Subba, the father of the victim,”
he said. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested the accused on May
19, a day after the victim’s body was found on the riverside. (EOIC)
