Kalimpong Youth arrested on rape charge of minor girl

Twenty-four year old Arpan Singh Rajput of the Homes area in Kalimpong was arrested late Sunday evening on the charge of raping a minor girl.
Rajput’s bail plea was rejected today by the magistrate at the Darjeeling Additional Sessions (2nd) court.
According to a senior police official who did not wish to be named, the victim was known to the accused and the incident took place on Saturday. “The victim is a 15-year-old studying in Standard VIII. She had gone to Delo, 2km from Kalimpong town, with a friend and met Rajput on the way who offered her a ride on his motorbike,” the officer said, adding an FIR was filed by the victim’s  parents on Sunday.
“The girl narrated her ordeal to her parents on Sunday morning, saying she was repeatedly abused the entire night in an open garage near the Homes area. We immediately jumped into action and arrested Rajput,” he further said.
The victim’s parents have stated that their daughter had left her friend at Delo after she was offered a ride by the accused. Kalimpong ASP Amlan Bose said, “Rajput has been arrested on the charge of raping a minor girl in a garage and he has been forwarded to court.”
Public Prosecutor Pranay Rai said, “Rajput was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and produced before magistrate Anupam Mukherjee.
His bail plea was rejected and he will have to appear before the court on June 27." (EOIC)
