Madan Tamang murder case jurisdiction

Madan Tamang murder case
Calcutta, July 28: The division bench of Calcutta High Court of Justice Asim Kumar Roy and Justice M.M. Banerjee today said they would first decide whether the court has the jurisdiction to hear the anticipatory bail petitions moved by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung and his associates in the Madan Tamang murder case.
"The division bench will first deliver a verdict on whether it has the jurisdiction to hear the anticipatory bail petitions by Bimal Gurung and others," Justice Asim Kumar Roy said.
Additional solicitor-general Maninder Singh, who was representing the CBI, said since the Supreme Court had been monitoring the case the high court could not intervene. "The Supreme Court... had sent the matter to the sessions court and made it clear that any person aggrieved with the sessions court would have to approach the Supreme Court," he said. (TT)
