Two persons were arrested in Siliguri
along with 2,000 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup worth more than Rs.1
lakh on Thursday by the detective department of Siliguri Police
Commissionerate.
Following a tip-off from credible
sources, the detective department personnel first nabbed Arun Singh
along with 2,000 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup from Gopal More area
of NJP in Siliguri. After interrogating Singh, police arrested Nagendra
Roy on Thursday night from Siliguri Junction area.
The two persons were involved in
smuggling the Phensedyl cough syrup from Kolkata to Bangladesh. The
cough syrup bottles were initially brought from Kolkata via train to
NJP. The cough syrup bottles would then be sent to Bangladesh via Assam.
Singh and Roy are both residents of
Siliguri town. They are currently in police custody and will be produced
before Siliguri Court today. (EOI)
