The inauguration of the first Bhutanese film festival in commemoration
of the golden jubilee celebration of formal diplomatic relations between
Bhutan and India was celebrated at Manan Kendra Auditorium, Cultural
Affairs & Heritage Department on Saturday.
Sikkim Asembly speaker K.N Rai said on the occasion that the film festival was a historical event as Sikkim was the first state to host the film festival of Bhutan. He mentioned the similarities between Sikkim and Bhutan which was based on religion and culture. He hoped for a stronger relationship between the two countries after the greenfield airport was operational and briefed the assembled guests from Bhutan about the achievements of Sikkim which included organic mission, environmental protection and other schemes envisioned by the state government.
Consul General of Bhutan in Kolkata Thinley Wangchuk, said he was honoured to represent of Bhutan and said that Sikkim and Bhutan always had a strong bond and beneficial relation due to regular visits and exchanges. He added that the celebration provided a long-term relation between the two nations and mentioned that selecting Sikkim to host the event was to build relationship, exchanges of culture and tradition and also promote film locations and tourism.
