Nepal Police Club (NPC) sent Darjeeling United packing with a 2-0
victory to seal a semi-final berth of the Tilottama Gold Cup football
tournament at the Debinagar stadium in Butwal on Tuesday.
Man-of-the-match Rabi Paswan and Milan Rai were on targets
for the departmental team. Paswan broke the deadlock deep into first
half stoppage time after he dispossessed the ball from a Darjeeling
player. Rai doubled their advantage in the 68th minute after he being
fed by Paswan. NPC will take on the winners of the match between Manang
Marshyangdi Club and Chyasal Youth Club in the semi-finals on Saturday.
The competitive match saw Major KC fired above bar for Darjeeling in
the 17th minute. Paswan came closer to scoring for NPC in the 23rd
minute when his shot rattled the bar. In the 27th minute, Darjeeling
captain Ganesh Limbu’s strike on goal was denied by custodian Roshan
Khadka and three minutes later Armesh Gurung’s scorcher crashed the
woodwork. NPC scorer Rai also hit the bar in the 32nd minute.
Darjeeling manager Jeson Lepcha said that his side failed to give
tough challenge due to the inclusion of new players in the squad. “We
had to divided the players as the team has also been playing in Bhutan,”
said Lepcha. NPC coach Ananta Raj Thapa said his team failed to live to
the expectations in the first half due to lack of proper understanding
and unknown opponents. “We changed strategy in the second half and that
worked well for us,” said Thapa.
Dauphins Family of Cameroon will take on Jhapa XI on Wednesday.
