Kolkata, Jun 27 : The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has written a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seeking discussion with her on the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) election slated for July 29.
Writers' Buildings sources today said the letter, written on behalf of the GJM leadership, sought to discuss the matter on June 29 or 30.
However, the chief minister's secretariat did not respond to the request so far.
GJM chief Bimal Gurung before leaving for New Delhi on June 25 had hinted that they were likely to meet the Chief Minister after their return from the capital.
The GJM's letter to the Chief Minister came a day after pro-GJM group Terai Dooars Joint Action Coordination Committee (TDJACC) maintained that it was not averse to the GJM's contesting the July 19 GTA election.
A Darjeeling report said in a joint meeting in presence of GJM general secretary Roshan Giri and GJM legislator Harka Bahadur Chettri at Gorubathan yesterday, TDJACC leader Rajesh Lakra alias Tiger had announced that the Committee would welcome if the GJM contests GTA's first election.
Earlier, the Committee had abstained from GJM's public meeting on June 24 with a condition that the GJM should not contest the GTA election unless 398 mouzas were handed over to the GTA.
The GJM had rejected Justice Shyamal Sen Committee's recommendation awarding only three mouzas as against its demand of 398 mouzas in the Terai and Dooars in the GTA. (UNI)
