GTA steps in to renew small scale and cottage industries

Fubi Rai, the GTA head of Small Scale and Cottage Industries reached Kalimpong today to inspect the small scale industries which are shut down and those which are in a deteriorating condition. He also inspected the Handloom Training Centre situated at Melli Road, Kalimpong Art Gallery at Upper Court Road and Industrial Building.He informed that the department has initiated the initial steps to encourage the small scale businesses in Kalimpong. Also the steps to construct a new building for the Handloom Training Centre have been instigated. The cost is around 2 crore for the same. Proper market facilities will also be made, he said.Further, he mentioned that the GTA after coming into being has started the process of providing loans to the small scale businesses in a subsidized rate. Likewise, training centres will be established in 8 different blocks. Through this some relief to unemployment is also expected. Lastly, he said that discussions are going on to renew Art and Craft of Kalimpong, Cutlery of Kurseong and Umbrella Company of Darjeeling.
