Critical Care cum Transfer Unit inaugurated at Primary Health Centre of Gitabling
A Critical Care cum Transfer Unit (CCTU) has been officially inaugurated at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) of Gitabling . The day has been in a way historical as Gitabling is said to be one of the remotest areas of the country. It was inaugurated by Dr S Liu, ACMOH of Kalimpong hospital in the presence of Dr NJ Pradhan from the PHC of Pedong Block. The Gitabling PHC is probably the first PHC West Bengal and also in the whole of India to have a CCTU.Gitabling is 55 kms away from Kalimpong town and 42 kms from Pedong. Being a remote area it does not even have a medical store. The Gitabling PHC since the year 2004 has Dr Subendu Das as its MOIC who was solely looking after the centre. When asked him about his experiences, Dr Das said that being a doctor he always felt sad to see people dying due to lack of proper medicines and treatment.“Thus, I slowly started bringing in the medicines and things needed for medical treatment”, he said.Today the PHC has facilities to medically treat asthma patients and also has medicines like Dobutamine and Noradrenaline, which possibly cannot be found in Kalimpong town.Dr Das hoped that the PHC will be of a great medical help to the public. “The government has to now decide whether to properly run the PHC or not”, he said.
