SILIGURI, 7 APRIL: The state government is ready to conduct the rural
polls, said the All India Trinamul Congress general secretary Mukul
Roy. He said the party was confident about winning the panchayat
elections.
“The state government is ready to hold the rural polls.
We have given dates for the rural polls to the State Election
Commission twice.
Our party would win the election if it’s held now or after three months,” Mr Roy said.
He was addressing a meeting of the Darjeeling district Trinamul minority cell at Chathat, near Siliguri today.
“It is a conspiracy of the Opposition parties which do not want the rural polls to be held, “he added.
Mr Roy also addressed a meeting at Kalimpong this evening.
“The motto of our party is to restore peace and development across the Hills.
The
Chief Minister, Miss Mamata Banerjee, has been frequently visiting the
Hills with the message of peace and development in the region. The state
government has given Rs 800 crore in one year for the development of
the Hills,” he said in Kalimpong.
Hundreds of Gorkha Jan Mukti
Morcha (GJMM) activists, including senior party leader Namita Gautam
joined the Trinamul Congress in Kalimpong today, in Mr Roy's presence,
