GJMM to withdraw strike

Roshan Giri
DARJEELING, 27 MAY: The Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha(GJMM) has decided to withdraw the indefinite pen-down strike at the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration offices that began today.
The party decided that work would resume from tomorrow. However, the strike was observed today at all the GTA offices located across the Hills. The indefinite hunger strike by the GTA members have got into its second day today, a stir that the party has launched against the state government not empowering the GTA in full. The GJMM would stage a rally on 29 May in Darjeeling on the same issue.
“We have decided that work would resume at the GTA offices from tomorrow. However, the hunger strike by the GTA Sabha members in all the sub-divisions of the Hills would continue as per the pre-announced agitation programme,” said the GJMM general secretary, Mr Roshan Giri.
The GJMM reiterates its demands that all cases registered against the party supporters during the period of the party-sponsored agitation in 2007-2011 be withdrawn immediately and the Fact Finding Committee to embark on field survey regarding 396 mouzas from Terai-Dooars that the party has demanded to be included in the jurisdiction of the GTA.
Further, they have also demanded the release of the GTA member from Gorubathan whom police had arrested following disturbances last week.
