Centre should give priority to Gorkhaland demand: Sabhasad Phubi Rai

On the eve of Sahid Diwas, GTA sabhasad Phubi Rai highlighted the issue of Gorkhaland, saying it is the oldest demand for statehood in the country.
According to Rai, creation of a Gorkhaland state should be accorded primary focus by the government before it looks into any other statehood demand. He said the demand for a separate state dates back to 1907, adding only when the Gorkhaland demand is fulfilled will the sacrifice of the martyrs be worthwhile.
Rai added, “If the centre wants to, it can form a Gorkhaland state. But a proper environment needs to be created at the centre, and for this, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leaders have been making regular visits to the national capital and meeting several national-level leaders to garner support for their cause.”
He further claimed several leaders in Delhi have expressed positive views to the demand for Gorkhaland. If they all come together, the central government would be compelled to take up the matter with seriousness, added the sabhasad. “The GJM has not accepted the Gorkha Territorial Administration by dropping the demand for Gorkhaland,” claimed Rai, adding the Morcha would never repeat the mistakes committed by the Gorkha National Liberation Front.(EOIC)
