The
Gorkha Janamukti Yuva Morcha of Panighatta-Lohagarh-Khapril zonal
committee has demanded the immediate cancellation of the GTA. Around 200
hundred protesters today organised a torch rally in Panighatta bazaar
in support of this demand.
GTA member Champa Bivar said, “If government accepts the demand of Telengana, our voice should also be heard, but if it doesn’t, we will be forced to come out on the streets in protest.
Meanwhile, the trade union of wing of the GJM also held a meeting today where in it was decided Sahid Diwas would be observed in Panighatta on July 27.
Trade union leader Harihar Acharya said, “This year we will observe the day in a big way and all tea gardens will remain closed.”
Residents of No. 9 Line in Panighatta today went berserk with panic after some of them claimed to have spotted a rhino near the Panighatta health centre. They fear the beast could enter the residential area, but their fear seems to have been overshadowed by curiosity as there are no previous records of a rhino appearing in the area.

Panighatta residents claim of spotting rhino in area
Residents of No. 9 Line in Panighatta today went berserk with panic after some of them claimed to have spotted a rhino near the Panighatta health centre. They fear the beast could enter the residential area, but their fear seems to have been overshadowed by curiosity as there are no previous records of a rhino appearing in the area.
Area resident Dipak Sharma vowed to have
spotted a huge rhino today in the jungle just adjacent to the centre,
while staff members claimed the animal has been roaming in the area
since the past two days.
In response, Panighatta Range beat officer Bikash Biswa said, “We have heard about the rhino from the locals, but it has not been traced till now. We are keeping a watch and the forest department staffers are searching for it.” (EOIC)
