The
state government has decided to operate NBSTC bus services and
distribute food grains in the Darjeeling Hills from Tuesday. Chief
Secretary Basudeb Banerjee and food minister Jyotipriya Mallick are
expected to arrive in Siliguri on Tuesday to discuss the situation in
the Hills with the district administration.
North Bengal Development minister Gautam Deb said, “No bandh will be allowed in Hills from tomorrow. Bimal Gurung cannot announce the janta curfew as it is unconstitutional and illegal. Leaders in the hills have enough money and live lavishly, but the poor people are suffering.”
When asked about the all-party meeting in Darjeeling, Deb said, “It was not an all-party meeting but that of Bimal Gurung’s party only. He has no right to call such an all-party meeting.”
He slammed the Congress and BJP for allegedly supporting the GJM just to secure the sole MP seat of Darjeeling.(EOI)

GJM to relax bandh from Aug 15-18
The
GJM late Monday evening announced it would not enforce a forcible
shutdown and offer a four-day relaxation from August 15, although the
'janata curfew' would be observed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"There will be no use of force to enforce the bandh in deference to the Kolkata High Court order," GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said.
He added the bandh, which completed its tenth day today, would be relaxed for three days till August 18 including on Independence Day. Giri added the GJM would decide on the next course of action on August 18.
GJM spokesperson and senior leader Harkabahadur Chetri had earlier announced the bandh would be relaxed only on August 15 and the 'janata curfew' would be observed for two days beginning Tuesday as announced by party chief Bimal Gurung.
The High Court has directed the West Bengal government to ensure normalcy in the Darjeeling Hills and chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday declared the bandh illegal. She gave the GJM a 72-hour deadline to withdraw it, but Gurung replied with his 'janata curfew' threat.
Meanwhile, Darjeeling Superintendent of Police Kunal Agarwal has said an additional five companies of the CRPF would be arriving in Darjeeling from Assam to bolster the five companies already deployed here. (EOIC)
