Noted academician Dr. Mahendra P Lama
today arrived in Kalimpong and interacted with media personnel and well
wishers on the upcoming December 14 public meeting of his organisation,
the Darjeeling-Dooars United Development Foundation.
Promising to work on developing the
region and the identity of the Gorkhas settled in India, he said, “We
are presently conducting public meetings to spread awareness among
people. The issue of development and identity cannot be separated from
each other. Development leads to identity. Identity without development
has no meaning. Now development not only means economic, it means
complete development. Our people are yet to understand the proper
definition and meaning of development. Our understanding about
development is very limited and narrow.”
He added, “First I need to reach Parliament. Do not doubt on what a single man can do. A lone man can do many things.”
Lama also commented on the present
strategy of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh in
Delhi. “Our brothers are working in their own way, but if they come
together and work it will be much better. I feel that two groups from
the same place demanding the same thing will leave a negative
impression. It shows inequality exists in our society. If they work
together, it will make a different impact.”(EOIC)
